How to Play

Lejestra is a two-player chess variant played on a 9×9 board with alternating red and dark squares. Red moves first. The middle three rows are neutral territory. Capture the enemy King to win.

Board Setup

Each player starts with three rows of pieces, mirroring each other across the board.

Front Rank (Row closest to center)

8 Pawns + 1 Frontline General (center)

Support Rank (Middle row)

4 Walls, 2 Shifters, 1 Joker, 2 Silver Generals

Back Rank (Farthest from center)

2 Rooks, 2 Bishops, 2 Knights, 1 Guard, 1 King, 1 Queen

Winning the Game

The game ends immediately when a King is captured. The capturing player wins.

The Guard must always remain adjacent to its own King (within one square).

Walls cannot capture enemy pieces and cannot be captured themselves. They can only move left or right into empty squares.
